Sarah VanKeuren, Martha Madigan, Emmet Gowin @ The Woodmere Art Museum

Tonight George and I went to the Triennial of Contemporary Photography at The Woodmere Art Museum. Sarah VanKeuren is a former professor of mine and in many ways an enormous inspiration to me. Her work in this show is fantastic and beautiful, as it usually is. If you missed the opening you should not miss seeing the show while it is up! There are beautiful prints by Martha Madigan, Emmet Gowin, Daniel Traub and several others!!! Although the Woodmere may be a hike to those of you without a set of wheels it's always worth it and a trip to Chestnut Hill is always a nice escape from the city.

A little shoutout

I'm really fortunate to have such an amazing living situation. My roommate Dustin and I are going on our second year living together. We were friends at UArts and are lucky enough that we have remained great friends after doing one another's dishes over the past year. Dustin is also a fantastic photographer finishing his MFA at Tyler School of Art. Many of his images are not only from Philly but all over the world!

My boyfriend George, who is often considered our 3rd roommate, is also a wonderful artist. He is currently making a living building other artist's websites and at the same time dabbling in fibers in anticipation for grad school. I sometimes take for granted how talented he is but was recently reminded when showing a friend a few of his recent websites. Here are a few of them as well as his website (he is also revamping his website so check back for some really awesome updates).

William Daley Swarthmore Opening!!!

Tomorrow night is William Daley's opening at the List Gallery in Swarthmore. There will be a lecture beginning at 4:30pm in the Lang Performing Arts Cinema on the campus and the reception will follow at 7pm. If you don't have a car it's a short walk from the R3 line to Media/Elwyn.

The show looks fantastic so if you can make it don't miss it!

Vince Feldman @ Tyler

A former professor and mentor of mine, Vincent Feldman, has a show at the Tyler School of Art. As far as I know there is no opening but I always enjoy seeing his work when he shows it. His work is amazing and I respect him a lot. Here is a link to his site:

Sorting out some thoughts

While relaxing at the beach today with a couple of my favorite girls from work I had plenty of time to think. In fact, I feel like all I do right now is think about my future and how it could play out. For some reason I keep thinking that grad school will be the answer to finding my dream job and real adult life where I settle down and live happily ever after. Although, reality reminds me that just like a BFA an MFA does not mean a garunteed job. I am lucky enough to have an amazing boyfriend and an amazing roomate that are encouraging and positive. They helped me to remember that I need to be active and ambitious now and that I have options and a very very good window of opportunity to help me persue a creative career. Waiting tables may put money in the bank but that's about it. There is more out there for me and I am excited to start looking for it.

I leave you with a fun photo I snatched at the beach during my contemplations. I was also remembering how fun and free I felt as a child looking in to the clouds.

Ok, so I haven't actually updated this blog since I started a year ago and I figured it is probably time. I haven't been doing a lot artistically but there are a few things I have gotten in to that were pretty big projects. (Actually just one thing).

For quite some time I have been lucky enough to photograph the work of William P. Daley, an amazing potter/mud man. He was lucky enough to get a grant to do a book on his life's work! Here are only a few images from a project that started out small for me and grew in to A LOT of work.
There is also an upcoming lecture and exhibition and Swathmore in September. I'll be sure to update that info asap.

Ceramic Tiles

For the past 10 Mondays I have been taking a ceramic tile and mosaic class at Fleisher Art Memorial. I started out in the throwing and hand-building class but my teacher was a little wacky so I quickly switched to a class that my good friend Ryan Treitel was also in and LOVED it. The teacher, Carol Stirton-Broad, was AMAZING! She was super helpful and sweet and brought books to class every week. I would definitely recommend her class if you want to learn some new things or just be inspired. Here are a few photos of some things I made.
